FOUNDATION

MORE CAPABLE.

LESS NAÏVE.

Practical Combatives for Men

Foundation is Flashpoint Combatives’ introductory training program for adult men.

Across two Saturday sessions, you’ll be introduced to a compact system of practical combatives and personal safety designed around the realities of violence — not competition, belts or sporting rules.

WHAT YOU’LL TRAIN

Foundation introduces the core skills and principles of practical combatives, including:

  • Striking with hands, elbows, knees and kicks

  • Standing grappling and positional control

  • Footwork, falling and recovery

  • Responses to common grabs and holds

  • Knife attack and defence

  • Baton attack and defence

  • Improvised weapons

  • Terrain

  • Awareness, avoidance and escape

  • Controlled resistance and pressure drills

This is practical training. You’ll work with partners, make physical contact and progressively apply techniques against resistance.

THE REALITY OF SELF-DEFENCE

Flashpoint does not promise that a weekend course will make you unbeatable. It won’t.

Weapons are dangerous. Bigger and stronger people are dangerous. Surprise matters. Numbers matter. Environment matters. Even skilled people can get hurt.

The purpose of training is not to create false confidence. It is to improve your options when avoidance and escape have failed — and to develop enough understanding to recognise situations you should never willingly enter.

WHO IT’S FOR

Foundation is designed for adult men who want practical training without committing to a traditional martial-arts school or competitive fighting program.

You do not need to be exceptionally fit and you do not need previous experience.

You do need to be willing to listen, work safely with other people, accept correction and train with appropriate control.

Applications are reviewed before places are offered.

WHAT IT ISN’T

Foundation is not:

  • A bootcamp or fitness challenge.

  • A competitive fighting class.

  • Military or tactical role-play.

  • A belt or ranking course.

  • A promise to make somebody “deadly” in eight hours.

Foundation introduces the system; it does not claim to create proficiency in a weekend. Proficiency requires repetition, continued training and individual development.

READY TO TRAIN?

Foundation is limited to a maximum of six participants per course.

Applications are reviewed before places are offered. There is no cost to apply and submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance.
